Happy International Women's Day! Today is a brilliant opportunity to celebrate amazing women around the world, and the incredible work that is going on in the fight for equality. It is also a good time to remember that there is still lots of work to be done, and reflect on what part we can all play in building a more equal world.
We are marking IWD this year with another one of our Safety Mapping workshops. Safety Mapping Perth is a project that will explore and map the lived experience of Perth & Kinross women with a specific focus on their feelings of safety within Perth city. Perth Women’s Collective (our local community group) has commissioned artists Helen O'Brien and Anna Kelso to work closely with a diverse selection of Perth-based groups to gather insight and understanding of how individuals think and feel about safety how this affects the way they interact with their surroundings. The artists will produce a creative interpretation of these findings. This project was launched during November 2021 as part of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Safety Mapping is part of a wider 12-month programme for Perth Women's Collective funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. We are very proud to be featured on the NLCF's blog today as part of their IWD campaign. You can read it here: https://bigblogscotland.org.uk/2022/03/08/celebrating-gender-equality/
As GEP is still in it's early days, we especially love hearing about other projects going on around Perth and Kinross! If you're work is empowering local women and contributing to gender equality please do reach out and get in touch.
